Rape in India

Based on data from the Government of India, the country's rape occurs every 20 minutes. Ironically, when the number of rape or sexual abuse increased, the number of offenders who received punishment is decreasing.

In the past year there have been numerous cases of rape which attract attention of many parties. One of the most tragic cases occurred in the State of Haryana, last November.

The incident occurred on Shubnam, a 16-years-old girl, who was raped eight young villagers. More pathetic again, the assailant was brutally recorded using their mobile phones.

When her father know events have spread across the country, he committed suicide, unable to bear the shame.

Haryana is a state of the farm where the men still dominate in daily life. For most people of Haryana, family honor and avoid shame necessity is a matter of life and death.

And usually, Indian women rape victims are often reluctant to be named. However, Shabnam is different. She just wants the world to know the terrible events that happened to her because she said many victims like her and she did not want to fall victim again, and the perpetrators of rape should go on trial with a lightning proportionate punishment for them, "said Rishi.

Indian women activists say the laws protecting women in the country is actually more than enough. So far it's just need support from policies to apply this rule.
